Amine brings high energy, crazy visuals and trolling to O2 Shepard’s Bush Empire

Amine was performing at the O2 Shepard’s Bush Empire last night for the first of his two sold out London dates of his TourPoint5ive World Tour.

Supported by Places + Faces’s +Sounds, less than 24 hours after they had hosted over 1500 people for their P+F x Guess collaboration party, +Sounds warmed the crowd and kept the energy up, with the best current Hip-Hop songs, while of course, mixing in some classics.

But Amine was something to behold. Everything from the stage set up; the background visuals, the lighting to Amine’s stage presence, it was something memorable. A lot of ‘new school’ rappers are criticised for their live performances – they lack real structure and meaning and a lot of the time, songs feel rushed and it is the backing track that does most of the work.

But not with Amine. He even had 2 mic’s set up so that when he was ready to sing and serenade the crowd, the vocals would be different and more suited on the second mic. The only other artist I’ve seen do that is Kanye West.

The screen behind Amine lit up with different graphics and visuals, with slogans such as ‘Fortnite doesn’t create dances, we do’ and ‘you can be whatever you want to be’ – reminding people to keep dreamchasing and ‘secure the bag’ – a theme of Amine’s music. My favourite background visual was when the word ‘CHINGY’ appeared, followed by countless images of his face. It was a major throwback for those who remember the sounds of the mid 2000’s, and for lack of a better word; trolling. But who doesn’t love a bit of trolling?

Hits such as Caroline and Reel It In of course were standouts, but the energy was energised and engaged throughout the entire show, which is a testament to the energy Amine himself but into the show. With artists like Amine, the Hip-Hop live show, which for a while has been the best live concert experience, with artists like Kanye West and Travis Scott putting on once-in-a-lifetime experiences, truly lives on as real artistry.
