Final Fantasy is one of the most popular gaming franchises of all time. Spawning countless standalone sequels and spin-offs, the worlds that the developers Squaresoft (now Square Enix) have managed to create have stayed with many gamers; myself included. I will be talking about one of them, and that game is Final Fantasy X-2.
Final Fantasy X-2 follows two years after the events of the original game. The main characters; Yuna, Rikku and Paine have become Sphere Hunters, which essentially are a sort of Dragonball hunters. The story takes a much lighter tone where you get to see the world of Spira and characters in funny yet action-packed scenarios. As always, for the sake of spoiling anything, the best way to describe this is it’s the Charlie’s Angels of video games.
The gameplay of FFX2 is your standard JRPG turn-based fighting. However, it has a real-time strategy because each move has a timer/stamina bar, meaning that once your bar has finished loading, you can make the next move.
Graphically the game has been slightly enhanced to fit in with the modern era, but I’m glad they kept some imperfections. Spira has always been a super colourful world, so that will always stand the test of time and the remaster displays that.
As said in the beginning, Square Enix has managed to create fantastic stories and worlds, and I think FFX2 is one of the best among those. The games are available on almost all modern gaming Platforms such as PS4, Nintendo Switch and the Xbox ONE.
Final Fantasy X-2 is available on:
- PlayStation 3
- PlayStation Vita
- PlayStation 4
