Last month, Toronto neo-soul artist LOONY released her new single “Royal Flush”, complemented by Chicago spitter Mick Jenkins. This track is a fresh serving of soulful R&B, mixing jazz and neo funk together, allowing LOONY to glide over the bouncy beat with her sweet vocals, perfectly rounded off with Mick Jenkins benchmark flow.
LOONY spoke on the meaning behind the song; the bluffing period, holding your cards close to your chest and waiting patiently for a love interest to show their hand. “You know when you’re feeling someone, and you’re sure they’re feeling you too? We both have a winning hand and if we play it, the world could be ours” the Scarborough native explained. “Don’t play face down with me. When you’re serious, you’ll show me [your true feelings] and it’ll be great” She added, referencing the mind games at play in a situation like this.
The single follows on from previous singles “Raw” and “Be Cool”, tapping into her signature gospel, hip-hop and rhythmic style, with lyrics exploring the winding world of love and relationships. Musical elites such as Elton John and Ebro Arden have sung their praises for the Canadian, more than enough of an indication that her music is to be taken seriously, and with “Royal Flush” being such a positive offering, we suggest you stay on the look for more content from LOONY.
